I'd like to thank all of you
 for your concerns
about our well-being and
the wild fires here
in Northern California.
there were about seven fires
burning in
different locations,
 all at the same time,
we, in Nevada County,
 were much more fortunate
than those in
Santa Rosa and
 the surrounding areas.

  We are so
 for that.

The fire
that was the closest to our home
(about two miles)
started with a transformer blowing up
 due to very high winds.
 It blackened a large portion
of the field below
and then demolished
one house next to the field
(pictured above).
The winds then shifted and
 saved the house next door
which belonged to our
next door neighbor's son.
It then shifted back and
 burned another home close by...

...see the siding
on the little green house
 where it came so close?

The transformer was
right across the road
from our fairgrounds,
which was one of the
main evacuation points.
One loose spark and
that could have all been taken away.
  The fairgrounds are nestled
into groves of cedar and pine trees and,
with the heavy winds,
could have easily been destroyed.

  Many thanks to the
first responders
for their hard and conscientious work.

Now let us slip back in
BeTWeen the MooNlIght and the MaJic.

In the very dark of night
Something large and black takes flight

While I lounge upon my bed
I hear a voice within my head

"What is that creature coming near,
Could it be something I should fear?"

I went to the window
Not much I could see

The dark of night was
As thick as could be

But, yet, I heard this gentle rustling
The thought of wings beside me puzzling.

Into the darkness
I continued to stare

What was I hearing
Was there something there?

Was it only the wind
That has found me here?

 Or just a dream
So loud and so clear?

I opened the door
Moved as if in a trance

There sat the Raven
High up on a branch

He looked down on me
And uttered these words,

"I am not a Raven
I am but a crow"

And quoth the Raven:

"My sincere apologies to Mr. Edgar Allen Poe."

Tis the month of October
The beginning of fall

Breast Cancer Awareness month
(Show the girls some love, my pretties)

With a little MOonLiGht and MaJic in between...

The Right Plan

The first thing she does
 When a witch wakes up

Is go for the coffee
And fill up her cup.

It's not until then
She is ready to fly

And a second cup makes her
Go higher than high.

And once she is up there
Way up in the sky

She will map out her plan
And then ask herself why?

Why spend her time
Riding a broom

When she just as easily
Could be hanging the moon.

This is not how I imagined
starting out this post today
but in light of all the recent tragedies,
I feel that I need to say something.

 The devastation that occurs
 due to natural causes
is always hard to accept and
all we can do is
 give some part of ourselves
to try to help make it right again
 for the victims and
what they have lost,
 but what that horrible animal
did to all those unsuspecting people
 in Las Vegas,
no human being has the right
 to do to another, ever.

  Watching the videos and
hearing the rounds of gun shots
 was something that will
stick in my mind for a long time to come.

 I can only imagine
 how it will affect
 all those involved.

this is something that is happening
in our world all too often.

 It hurts to think that
 it probably is
just a matter of time
before it happens again.

There has to be a solution.

 Our hearts go out to
all the families
who have lost loved ones and
pray for a speedy recovery
for those injured.

Whatever Happened to...

Whatever happened to...

Miss Sara Jane
She stood so proud and so tall

Her shadow fell
As she entered a room

But, she wasn't
scary at all.

Whatever happened to...

Old Witch Hazel

With her long and pointy chin

Her hair was a mess
Resembling bird's nests

But, she could sit on
 the head of a pin.

Whatever happened to...

Wee Baby Boo

She had something so hard to resist

With dimples so deep
And a smile that was sweet

She was a beacon of light,
With a twist.

They all have returned
coming into the light

With potions and spells that are new

And as they conspire
They sing like a choir

Whatever happened to you?

And so begins
 the journey between
the MoOnliGhT and the MaJiC.

I hope you will return
 each and every week...

Come on in and...

I think you
 will be
glad you did.

has finally arrived.

 The fires are lit and
we are settling in
 for some comfortable time.

The leaves are not quite turning yet,
but there is a nip in the air
 even though the sun is
 still shining.

The Secret Garden
is the first to
 come to the party.
These leaves have been falling
 well before the calendar
 said it was time.

 The squirrels will soon be
scurrying along the limbs
of the walnut tree,
with visions of a
long, cold winter in view.

We will sit a little longer
on the screened porch and
watch their antics,
but not before
 being wrapped up
 in woolie blankets.

Here are a few more
nooks and crannies
that have taken on
the colors of autumn
in the Cottage...

...and a front porch welcome
 to all who come
through the gate...

The guest room
is decorated
with a nod to contradiction.

  Last week
 I said that the
earthy, warm colors of autumn
were my favorites.
  While that is the truth,
 our guest room,
decorated in shades of
green, pink and soft lavender,
simply needs
the softer side.

 Nothing much is changed
from the ordinary,
except the addition of
one of the affordable pillows
that I keep adding
 to my collection...

  This one made of a
silky material
with colors that celebrate the season
but don't compete
with the basic style
of the room
and came with a price tag of
between two and three dollars...

...and instead of
fresh flowers
that I normally place on the nightstand,
I fashioned a tree of green leaves.

  I pinned leaves
from the garden
to a tall cone.

They become a little drier each day
and add a feeling of the harvest
that is soon to come.

Along with a small white pumpkin
this is my contribution to
the softer side
of autumn.

The newest little chicken
has gotten into the act.

Posing with a new kitchen towel
 that nods toward
what is coming
to the Cottage
 next week

...along with another cute pillow
that tells the tale
of what you can expect
 BetWEen the MoONliGhT
and the MaJiC...

Here is your standing invitation
for the month of October
when the Cottage Witch
will welcome you with open arms.

Come into her embrace.......if you dare!
